Miranda Currie

Miranda Currie is a northern indigenous artist living and working among the Dene people in Sombe K’e, more widely known, as Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. She walks in two worlds, with one foot in her Swampy Cree heritage and the other foot in her Euro-Canadian ancestry. Her mission is to create authentic northern indigenous content that is accessible to children and families.

Nominated for aboriginal singer songwriter of the year by the Canadian Folk Music Awards in 2015 for Up In the Air, Miranda continued to hone her talents as a fiddle and guitar playing songstress while transitioning to the genre of children’s music and entertainment. In 2018 she released her first children’s album Bouncing in the Boreal and is set to release Tickling the Taiga in May of 2022!

In addition to being a musician, Currie is a filmmaker. Her film Tails on Ice premiered at the Cannes Short Film Festival in 2021. Miranda is a dedicated land-based educator and author of 4 children’s books. Using music and the land, she helps young people connect to indigenous language and culture. She lives in a cozy shack on the shores of the Great Slave Lake with her two sled dogs Niyanin and Ellesmere.

Munya Mataruse

Munya Mataruse is an Artist born in Zimbabwe and now based in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada. He started his music career professionally in 2005 at Pakare Paye Arts Centre which is an arts organization formed and is managed by Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi (Zimbabwean Music Super Star). Munya’s music is a unique blend of styles ranging from Afro Jazz, Katekwe and Shangara (the local traditional Zimbabwean genre). His sound is recognizable with intensely catchy Zimbabwean melodies and smooth vocals.

With 4 albums to his name, performances across Zimbabwe, South Africa, Canada and the U.S.A. and numerous local performances including: Northwords Gala, Ramble and Ride, Great Northern Music Conference, Yellowknife Multicultural Festival, Music at the Market, various private events, and the winner of the Folk on the Rocks Main Stage Showdown; Munya is quickly becoming one of the most active and recognizable musicians in the NWT.

Priscilla’s Revenge

Precambrian rock, with a touch of aurora blue; mix in searing guitar, danceable grooves and skilled songwriting. That’s the sound of Yellowknife’s Priscilla’s Revenge, one of Northern Canada’s most prolific bands.

Priscilla has been writing and recording original music since late 2004. The band has released three albums of original material in that time the last being “Third Gear” in July 2011. In December 2018 Priscilla released their Christmas single Go Santa Go and they released an EP called “Living on Rock” in 2019. Priscilla is slated to release another album by Christmas 2022.

The first two Priscilla’s Revenge albums were nominated for national awards. Songs from these albums have received national radio exposure on CBC’s Saturday Night Blues and international airplay in Europe and the USA. Their song “That’s What I’ll Say,” from their second album reached #6 on the National
Aboriginal Countdown. “Leave em Outside The Door” from their recent album reached number two on these charts in February.

See you all there!
